What’s the issue?DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — the airport in
Dubai was closed for 8 hours after a airplane crashed with 229 passengers and crew on board apparently collapsed during take off.
Fourteen people suffered with really bad injuries in the accident at the
Middle East’s busiest airport.
The incident left thousands of passengers stuck in the airport’s two terminals while safety officials inspected the runway where the accident occurred.Flights resumed in and out of Dubai International around 2 p.m.            and 20 minutes later, an Emirates flight from Islamabad, Pakistan, landed at
Dubai.
The incident affected a total of 71 flights: 36 flights that were heading out of
Dubai were cancelled and 35 incoming flights were sent to nearby airports.
A statement from the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight 006 “had an accident during departure and failed to take off.” The Airbus A310 had been heading for
Dhaka, Bangladesh, when the accident happened around 6:30 a.m.
A lot of people were also suffering from the shock. An investigation is being conducted by the DCA and the General Civil Aviation Authority. The airport’s public address system told travelers that all flights were delayed until further notice.Passengers at the airport were not told the length of the closure and crowded around TV screens to watch news reports of the accident.
Who is affected? The people who were in that airplane are effected (some survived), and the people close to the persons who died or got injured. What would I do if I was directly involved?I don’t really think I would be able to do something about it, because it already happened, and I wouldn’t have the power to do anything. However, I would ask people (who’s work it is) to search for more information what would be a good explanation for this incident. Maybe something was wrong with the airplane, because sometimes something could be wrong with the airplane, but it could also be something else…

Mar 12, 2007 - DUBAI (Reuters) - Dubai airport was closed for at least eight hours on Monday after a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft was involved in an accident while trying to take off, officials said.Fourteen people were slightly injured in the accident at the Middle East’s busiest airport, officials said.

Dubai, one of seven emirates comprising the United Arab Emirates, is the major trade and tourism centre in the Gulf region. Dubai airport is the busiest in the Middle East and a major hub for transfers between Europe and Asia.

Passengers at the airport were not told the length of the closure and crowded around TV screens to watch news reports of the accident.

Some flights were cancelled, while others were delayed or transferred to nearby Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports. Some passengers complained there was no information about their flights.

The normally packed airport shopping area was deserted as passengers thronged around information and transfer desks, while others left or were bussed out of the airport.

More than 28.7 million passengers and 1.4 million tonnes of freight passed through Dubai International Airport in 2006, according to its Web site (www.dubaiairport.com).
