whats the issue?

Chocolate maker Mars apologised on Sunday for a decision to use animal products in chocolate bars and said in future its candy would be suitable for vegetarians. The company said it was a decision announced last week to change its chocolate recipe to include trace amounts of rennet, a natural enzyme produced from the stomachs of calves which is used in traditional cheese and chocolate making. That recipe change had infuriated vegetarian campaigners. Forty members of parliament signed a protest petition, and the media was bemused. The company did its best to sound contrite. “It became very clear, very quickly, that we had made a mistake, for which I am sorry,” Fiona Dawson, managing director of the Mars snack food business in Britain, said in a statement. “There are 3 million vegetarians in the UK and not only did we disappoint them but we upset lots of other consumers,” she said. They got  more than 6,000 calls and e-mails in the daysSo they would make the chocolates more suitable in the future

who is involved?

The animals, vegatarian people, and normal people, and the makers of “Mars” chocolate bars.

what would i do if i’d be directly involved?

well, there’s not a lot i could do, because they alreaady said sorry, and because they already tested it on the animals. But i would claim about them, because it’s just wrong to test things on animals…

“Renaissance Interview Reflection”

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

I had to “interview” a renassance person, called Donatello. He is a sculptor. You can see the questions I asked him below.  :)  It was interesting, because firdt, I didn’t know who he was, but after this interview, I do. So it was kind of helpful to me. :) I kind of enjoyed doing this about the renassance people, because I also learned about other people, except for Donatello.

I also learned about King Henry, because You Won had him as her renassance person, and i helped her a bit with her person. I never knew who any of these people were except for a few like: Leonardo Da Vinci, William Shakespear, Marco polo, and some others. So I think it’s nice to do some of these things so I can learn more about people I didn’t know:)

When and where are you born?

If you must know, I was born in Florence, Italy, in 1386.

What special skills or talents do you have, and how did you get them?

I am a sculptor, and my technique is still used by sculptors today.

What are your most famous works/deeds?

My most famous work would be David, I guess. However, I have some other famous sculptures:
- St. peter
- St. mark
- St. George
- The dragon
- St. John
- The evangelist
- Magdalen
- The angel with the Tambourine

How did your work change the way people lived in the renaissance?
- people adored my sculptures, and so they learned how to appreciate art.

What impact do you think your work will have on the future?
- people will appreciate art more, and they will appreciate artists from now, this time. Because I know some artists have beautiful work.

So is it true that you are considered one of the greatest sculptors of all time?
- yes that is true. However, I dont really think Im that good, but it does give me a good feeling that I know that people appreciate my work. Especially my masterpiece called David .

Responce for Anthony’s current event.

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

Anthony wrote some good information about the bombs in North Korea. I actually learned something from it. He named every country which has something to do with this thing with the bombs. I think that the reason that the other countries also are affected, does not really makes a lot of sense to me. However, he did make a good presentation  out of it. He had to do it without his page on the screen. He did a good job on that. When I read his blog, I did not learn something new, because he nicely told everything in class. The things he said about how he is going to help if he was directly involved did not make sense to me either. He also forgot to tell us how the whole world is effected, because i think that people in Frace for example wont have any problems because of it. However, I think that he made a very well presentation.

Hill said he had yet to hear a response from North Korea to the release of $25 million held in a Macau bank. Macau authorities said earlier this week the money is available for account holders to access, but it remained unclear when North Korea might do so.

Although time is running short before a Saturday deadline set in a February agreement in which North Korea pledged to take initial steps to disarm, Hill maintained it was “possible to get going on this process in the next two days.”

South Korean nuclear envoy Chun Young-woo called for patience Thursday and said other countries should wait “another few days” until North Korea responds, noting it typically does not respond quickly.

Richardson, a Democratic presidential candidate, returned Wednesday from a four-day mission to North Korea to bring back six sets of remains believed to be of American soldiers from the Korean War. His delegation included the top White House adviser on Korea, Victor Cha.

On Wednesday, Richardson said North Korea had pledged to welcome UN nuclear inspectors within a day of receiving its funds, but had wanted to extend a Saturday deadline for shutting down its main nuclear reactor by 30 days - which the US delegation rejected.

Cha told reporters Thursday that any extension of the deadline would have to be agreed upon by all countries in the six-nation arms talks: China, Japan, Russia, the United States and the two Koreas.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Wednesday the United States had “gone the extra mile” to resolve the bank issue. He repeated the United States’ expectation that North Korea will meet the shutdown deadline, and refused to speculate on consequences for the North if it fails to do so.

Question 7 — answer

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

I chose Albert Einstein as my renassaince person, because he won a nobel price. A nobel price for physics, in 1921. He was a very smart man, especially in science and physics. He did not know everything. However, he was very smart. So I think that he is a renassaince person. He is dead by now, but when he was still alive, he did very smart things. He probably focused a lot on his work, so he got a nobel price. That is why I think that Albert Einstein is a renassaince person.

current event!! airplane crashed in Dubai.

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

What’s the issue?DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — the airport in
Dubai was closed for 8 hours after a airplane crashed with 229 passengers and crew on board apparently collapsed during take off.
Fourteen people suffered with really bad injuries in the accident at the
Middle East’s busiest airport.
The incident left thousands of passengers stuck in the airport’s two terminals while safety officials inspected the runway where the accident occurred.Flights resumed in and out of Dubai International around 2 p.m.            and 20 minutes later, an Emirates flight from Islamabad, Pakistan, landed at
Dubai.
The incident affected a total of 71 flights: 36 flights that were heading out of
Dubai were cancelled and 35 incoming flights were sent to nearby airports.
A statement from the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) said Biman Bangladesh Airlines Flight 006 “had an accident during departure and failed to take off.” The Airbus A310 had been heading for
Dhaka, Bangladesh, when the accident happened around 6:30 a.m.
A lot of people were also suffering from the shock. An investigation is being conducted by the DCA and the General Civil Aviation Authority. The airport’s public address system told travelers that all flights were delayed until further notice.Passengers at the airport were not told the length of the closure and crowded around TV screens to watch news reports of the accident.
Who is affected? The people who were in that airplane are effected (some survived), and the people close to the persons who died or got injured. What would I do if I was directly involved?I don’t really think I would be able to do something about it, because it already happened, and I wouldn’t have the power to do anything. However, I would ask people (who’s work it is) to search for more information what would be a good explanation for this incident. Maybe something was wrong with the airplane, because sometimes something could be wrong with the airplane, but it could also be something else…

Mar 12, 2007 - DUBAI (Reuters) - Dubai airport was closed for at least eight hours on Monday after a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft was involved in an accident while trying to take off, officials said.Fourteen people were slightly injured in the accident at the Middle East’s busiest airport, officials said.

Dubai, one of seven emirates comprising the United Arab Emirates, is the major trade and tourism centre in the Gulf region. Dubai airport is the busiest in the Middle East and a major hub for transfers between Europe and Asia.

Passengers at the airport were not told the length of the closure and crowded around TV screens to watch news reports of the accident.

Some flights were cancelled, while others were delayed or transferred to nearby Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports. Some passengers complained there was no information about their flights.

The normally packed airport shopping area was deserted as passengers thronged around information and transfer desks, while others left or were bussed out of the airport.

More than 28.7 million passengers and 1.4 million tonnes of freight passed through Dubai International Airport in 2006, according to its Web site (www.dubaiairport.com).

Crusades. [:

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

The crusades were a series of religious wars. They began in 1095 and ended in about 1292. They were wars between people who believed in the Christian religion and people who believed in the Muslem religion. The took place in the Holy Land, which is called Israel. In those days, Christians liked to visit the Holy Land. They wanted to see the places where Jesus Christ had lived. When the muslems wouldn’t allow them to visit anymore, the Christians decided to fight these wars…

Answer on Ms. Nash’s question.

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

People in the Middle Ages who went on the Crusades were often prepared to give up their lives for a cause they believed in.  Are there any modern-day issues which inspire people to act like this? Explain in detail your answer to this question.

I think that the king inspired them by telling them that he would make the lives better of the people who would survive, and he promised the people who would die, that they would go to heaven. The thoughts of that inspired them, because they thought it was true. I don’t really know of the king really made the lives, of the people who survived, better. However, I do know that the king couldn’t promise that the people who would die would definately go to heaven, because he doesn’t even know if heaven really exsists. So that’s my answer on that question. :)

Comment on Kim’s current event!!

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

The issue is that there are floods in Jakarta, Indonesia. There are also a lot of people involved. Over 50.000 people are involved. Kim explained this very well, so that the people in the class would understand it better. The people also got sick because of it and that’s not good because it affects the  people in Jakarta and maybe people who don’t live in Jakarta. That was also good explained by Kim.

The interesting thing about this was that I learned something. I would never know that there were floods in Jakarta, and i know it because of Kim. Also the way that Kim explained it to us was very good. It got stuck in my head for some reason. She also answered our questions which was good. The way that she compared a adult with the hight of the water in Jakarta was also a very good idea.

Something I want to say to Kim:

Hey Kim. Your presentation was very good. You also had enough information about the floods in Jakarta. The picture that shows how deep it is comparing to a adult was a good idea. I didn’t know that if something like that would happen that every person in that country would be affected. You told us in your presentation that all the people in Jakarta are affected. However, you said that you would set up help stations if you would have the power to change it, but there are a lot of help stations already. So I don’t really think that it would help more. The rest of your presentation and your information was good because I learned from it.

A family crosses a flooded street in Jakarta

Thousands of homes in the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta are under water after heavy rains overnight caused serious floods.

Residents fled to higher floors as up to a metre of water through the streets and homes, also causing traffic chaos in the city of more than 10 million people.

The deluge sparked fears of a repeat of flooding early last year in Jakarta and surrounding areas, which killed more than 60 people and forced around 300,000 from their homes.

About the Religion in the Middle Ages.

Posted by ivana in Uncategorized

Hello. Now I’m about to tell you what I have learned about the religion in the middle ages. The people who lived in the Middle Ages mostly believed in Christianity. So they believed in everything what Jesus Christ said. Religion was very important to the Middle Age people. Especially to the monks and friars. Monks and friars were people who worked in the church. They also have a scedule, which they have to follow every day. They don’t sleep a lot, they mostly read, prey, and work in the church. That’s what the monks did. Monks were similar to friars, but friars were more poor. Monks had to live in Monasteries, which are near the church. They helped sick people and prayed for god. So religion was very important to the Monks, friars, priests, pope’s and much more people from the Middle Ages.

Here is the scedule of the monks:

  • 1.45 a.m - Wake up.

  • 2.00 a.m - read and prey.

  • 3.30 a.m - church service.

  • 4.00 a.m - sleep (only in the summer)

  • 5.00 a.m - church service.

  • 6.00 a.m - read and prey.

  • 7.00 a.m - church service.

  • 8.00 a.m - work.

  • 9.15 a.m - church service.

  • 11.15 a.m - work.

  • midday - Church service.

  • 1.00 p.m - meal.

  • 1.45 p.m - read and prey.

  • 2.45 p.m - sleep. (only in the summer)

  • 3.00 p.m - church service.

  • 5.45 p.m - work.

  • 6.00 p.m - meal.

  • 7.15 p.m - church service.

  • 7.45 p.m - read and prey.

  • 8.00 p.m - sleep.
